Vered obtained B.Sc in Life Scieces ( Magna cum laude ) and M.Sc ( Magna cum laude ) and Ph.D in Biochemistry from Tel-Aviv University, Israel. During her training with Prof. Nathan Nelson she studied Structure-function relationship in the V-ATPase complex from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae using molecular biology and biochemistry techniques. These studies shed light on the rotary mechanism of the eukaryotic V-ATPase, its involvement in endocytosis and the specific features that distinguishes it from the prokaryotic F-ATPase. Vered is a member of ISEF Foundation since 1994. She joined the Varki lab for her postdoctoral training in Glycobiology on December 2005. Her current interest is to study the immunological aspects of the non-human sialic acid, N-glycolylneuraminic acid, and to investigate its potential in cancer prognosis, diagnosis and therapy.
