An Academic Approach at Industrial Scale
Epigenomics promises to unlock the hidden code of the human genome.
As we know, the human genome contains 3 billion letters of G, A, T and Cs, but less than 2% of it has been decoded. To explore the uncharted human genome is like navigating the vast and open ocean, where epigenomics provides the indispensable compass to follow the route.
The epigenome is the collection of all chemical modifications to DNA and chromosomal proteins in each and every cell during its lifespan. In the last two decades, researchers at the UC San Diego Center for Epigenomics have demonstrated that the epigenome provides the crucial information needed to infer the biological activities of the underlying DNA sequences.
By leveraging the rapid advancements of DNA sequencing instruments, we have built robust and cutting-edge technology platforms to map the epigenome in single cells, hundreds of thousands of cells in parallel and at increasing resolution, scale and efficiency.
With our high-throughput technologies, we have already produced single-cell epigenome maps for tens of millions of cells from vital organs across the human body, and used the information to annotate more than 30% of the human genome.
The center's director, Dr. Bing Ren, has been at the forefront of epigenomic research for over a decade. A pioneer in the field, he has a long and influential record of scientific innovation and leadership as a driving force for multiple genomic consortia, including ENCODE, the NIH Roadmap Epigenomics Mapping Consortium, the International Human Epigenome Consortium, and the 4D Nucleome Consortium. Today, his laboratory is a leader in the study of how the epigenome regulates cellular function.
Our ultimate goal is to translate these scientific advances into clinical solutions for various human diseases. Working closely with our collaborators from both academia and industry, we expect our research will generate unprecedented insights into how cells function and malfunction in human diseases. Join us at the UC San Diego Center for Epigenomics as we as we unravel the mysteries of cancer at a level of detail never before possible to reveal novel diagnostics and therapeutics.
Collaborate with Us
There are two primary ways to collaborate with C4E: Our collaborative research programs and our fee-for service offerings.
Collaboration Opportunities
Our mission of enabling epigenomics driven discoveries is accomplished in part through collaborative projects between the Center and investigators at UC San Diego and beyond. Find out how our center can partner with you every step along the way.
Fee-for-service
The service includes nuclei and library preparation, including all reagents and labor costs associated with library preparation as well as shallow quality check sequencing and deep sequencing basic data processing and quality analysis are also included in this portion of the cost.
Technology Platforms
Epigenomic technologies allow us to look beyond the genome sequence, revealing information about how the genome actually exists in individual cells: bound by proteins, modified by enzymes, and folded inside the dynamic 3-dimensional space of the cell's nucleus.
